While We’re Young EP
Nancy Daines’s EP, While We’re Young, flaunts itself as a nostalgic powerhouse, drawing from 70’s soul influences of Stevie Wonder, The Bee Gees, and Marvin Gaye, while brilliantly blending vocal prowess like that of Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Lady Gaga. Daines’s soulful tone and impressive range brings new life to a classic sound, and her quick-witted lyrics add an impressive depth to each piece.
Daines warmly addresses the differing seasons and moments of life, like the never-ending battle for self-identity in a branded and numbers-based world (“Is Anybody Listening”), people and moments that come and go (“Faded Fashion Trend”), and the joys and excitement of new and growing love (“The Way You Love Me”). As momentum pushes her forward, Daines’s nostalgic touch is the exciting and refreshing breath to the pop world we have been looking for.
“Growing up the youngest of 6, I spent so much time squished in the back seat going from place to place. I didn’t realize how these car rides would shape me and my sound as an artist. My parents were constantly blasting catchy 70s tunes as we drove and I slowly learned to harmonize to all of these as a young girl. I developed an ear for funk and jazz and now I see it show up in all of my own writing. Lyrically, I’d say this project is a culmination of all the crazy feelings and experiences I am having in my twenties, whether thats speaking self-truth, losing romantic taste, or finding a really special love. I hope this EP makes people feel nostalgic but also inspires them to embrace wherever they are in life. Life is shaped by our experiences. Embrace these experiences and enjoy music that makes you bop your head and snap your fingers!”
